Microsoft's open-source SQL MCP Server, part of Data API builder, exposes configured tables, views, and stored procedures with role-based access. It is a strong base. We configure it, or build beside it, for the line-of-business databases your company depends on.

What already exists for Microsoft SQL Server
Checked against vendor and platform sources on October 23, 2026. If an official option covers your need, use it.
Microsoft's SQL MCP Server is an open-source feature of Data API builder (version 1.7 and later). It is self-hosted, supports streamable HTTP and stdio, and exposes only the entities and operations a role is allowed. It is not a hosted connector in the Claude or ChatGPT directories.
- Covers: configured tables, views, and stored procedures with role-based access, for SQL Server, Azure SQL, and other databases.
- Requires: someone to write the configuration, host it, and set up authentication.
- Does not cover: business definitions across tables, or combining SQL Server with other systems.

Old schemas, clear tools
Line-of-business databases often have cryptic table names. We expose views and procedures named for the business, with descriptions Claude can pick correctly.
Writes through stored procedures
Changes run through approved procedures that enforce your rules, never through direct table edits.
On-premises reach
Many SQL Server databases sit on a private network. We deploy the server where it can reach the database safely and still be reachable by Claude over HTTPS.

Test in Claude and ChatGPT with real questions and refusals.
